5 Steps to Cultivating Genuine Self-Love

Feb 23, 2016

shan photo Create The Life You See When You Close Your Eyes and Dream Most of us desire romantic love and ways in which we can attract it or keep the flames alive with that special someone. Romantic love causes us to light up like a Christmas tree, breathe a little easier, and view the world with more positivity. Yet, in order to love another with authentic unconditional love, we must first love ourselves. We cannot give what we do not have. One of my favorite counselors, Dr. Larry Crabb, used to say that most couples are like “two fleas and no dog.” Each partner enters the relationship, not to give, but to suck the life’s blood out of each other in order to fill themselves up. We tend to approach relationships from a deficiency instead of approaching the relationship to give and contribute from a position of abundance.
To have an abundance of love to give, we have to fill ourselves up first. I recently worked with a client on this same issue and developed a strategy that was very effective. I named it the “Tabula Rasa Strategy.”
Tabula Rasa in Latin means “blank slate.” Many mental health professionals claim that when we are born, we are born with a blank slate. As we develop as human beings, those who have the most influence on us write on the slate of our souls. It could be a parent, family member, or teacher.
In this exercise with my client, the person who had the most influence on her was her father. When we discussed what he wrote on the slate of her soul, words like “unworthy, insignificant, unimportant, and invisible” came to her mind. Although this greatly affects our belief system about who we are, and what we are capable of, this is not uncommon.

So, here’s the strategy or directive I gave her and you could use for yourself:
1. Write down on a piece of paper the words, feelings, or impressions of what was written on your tabula rasa – your blank slate.
2. Review the list and determine which are objectively true. Then take a red pen or marker and cross out that which is false.
3. Take the piece of paper, crumble it up, and burn it. (Use a fire-safe receptacle like a fireplace, fire pit, or kitchen sink.)
4. Take a new piece of paper and write down what is true about the genuine you. My client wrote things like, “vibrant, conscious, worthy, wanted, loved, and fully expressed.”
5. Review your list every day for 21 days, which creates a habit and reinforces what you really believe about yourself. (This will take less than 30 seconds.)
In implementing this strategy, you will begin to eliminate old, limiting beliefs about yourself and reinforce new, empowering beliefs about yourself that build a foundation of self-love that will enable you to give authentic love to another. The kind of love that contributes to a relationship instead of contaminates. Aren’t you and your partner, or future partner, worth it?

Positive Thinking & Your Health

Dec 21, 2015

by Luke Edward Hays

The phrase positive thinking does come across as feel good language. Through research it has been revealed that positive thinking is more than just being happy or displaying an upbeat attitude that can create real value in someone’s life. Barbara Fredrickson, a positive psychology researcher at the University of North Carolina, did an experiment to research the different emotional reactions of different groups of people to see how they would respond.

Staying Positive When You’re Around Toxic People

“Negative emotions involve more thinking and therefore get processed more thoroughly than positive ones,” sociologist and former Stanford professor Clifford Nass wrote in The New York Times. “Almost everyone remembers negative things more strongly and …

Positive emotions broaden an individual’s momentary thought-action range; these include: joy, which sparks the urge to savor and integrate, and love which sparks a recurring cycle of each of these urges within safe close relationships. The second key proposition concerns the consequences of these broadened mindsets. Positive emotions promote discovery of creative actions, ideas and social bonds that in turn builds into that individual’s personal resources. These resources range from physical and intellectual, to social and psychological.
Barbara Fredrickson conducted an experiment where she divided research subjects into five groups. Each group was then show different film clips that created different emotions.

  • The first group saw images that created joy.
  • The second group saw images that created feelings of contentment.
  • Group three was the control group, they where shown images that where neutral and had no significant impact on their emotions.
  • The fourth group saw images that created feelings of fear and group five saw images that created feelings of anger. Afterward, participants where asked to imagine themselves in a situation where similar feelings would arise and then write down what they would do.
  • The final two groups where shown clips that created negative emotions.

Todd Frazier type of player who leaves positive impressions everywhere

Glen Gardner has watched Todd Frazier’s rise from a Little League World Series champion to a two-time Reds All-Star to the White Sox’s new great hope at third base. The longtime Rutgers assistant coach, who recruited New Jersey native Frazier and his …

By the end of the experiment, there were drastically different results. Participants, who saw images of fear and anger, wrote down the fewest responses. The participants who where shown images of joy and containment, wrote down a drastically higher number of actions they would take. These specific results came out even higher when compared to the neutral group.
Barbara Fredrickson refers to the benefits of positive emotions as “The Broaden and Build Theory.” This theory describes the form and functions of a subset of positive emotions. These emotions include: joy, interest, contentment and love. The experienced positive emotions broaden your sense of possibilities and open your mind. In turn this allows you to build new skills and resources that can provide value in other areas in life.

Increasing positive thinking can be accomplished by three different methods. These methods do not only increase your positive thinking, but also results in positive effects on one’s health.

First, take time to write. A study from the Journal of Research in Personality examined 90 undergraduate students. The students where split into two groups. Group one wrote about an intensively positive experience each day for three consecutive days. Group two wrote about a control topic. Following three months of the experiment, the students who wrote about the positive experiences had better mood levels, experienced fewer illnesses and had fewer health center visits.
The second is meditation. Barbara Fredrickson and her colleagues found people who meditated also built valuable long-term skills. It was also revealed that people who meditate daily display more positive emotions than those who do not.
The third may come as a surprise, play. It is important to schedule time to play in your life. It is easy to get caught up in our daily schedule that we can forget to set sometime aside and step back to enjoy a slice of life. Take an opportunity to block out an hour on your calendar or write a reminder to make time for yourself.

Appreciating real value in life begins by thinking positively. The value created helps to build strength that will last throughout your lifetime. When experiencing positive emotions like joy, contentment, and love you will see more life possibilities. They may be writing, music, meditation, or anything else that provides more than just a momentary decrease in stress. Once this step is accomplished, our brains will do the work. We need to set time aside to play and seek adventure on a regular basis.

Alaska Mom Give Princess Wigs to Girls with Cancer

Nov 16, 2015

Every girl wants to be a princess. Now an Alaska mother is making that wish come true for girls living with cancer. Holly Christensen’s Magic Yarn Project is giving girls who lose their hair to cancer the chance to have hair like a princess.
Christensen was inspired to create the Magic Yarn Project after learning about a friend’s daughter who was diagnosed with cancer.
“ I knew having been a cancer nurse what she was about to go through,” said Christensen. “I knew she would be going through a difficult time, and that no one would be able to take her suffering away,” added Christensen. “I also knew that losing her long, curly blonde hair at not even 3 years old would be difficult for her, so I figured that the yarn wig could help bring a little magic and fun to a difficult time in her life.”
The mission statement of the Magic Yarn Project shows how much Christensen cares about the little girls battling cancer.

Family’s cancer fundraiser raise $3G, boy’s spirits

Cancer is something you can’t go through alone,” said Kevin’s mother, Lauren Morrissey, 34. “It’s incredible all the support that we’ve had. … Seeing Kevin and the other kids in the clinic is what keeps you going. With all that they’re going through

“The mission of The Magic Yarn Project is to create beautiful and soft princess yarn wigs for little girls with cancer and to encourage and facilitate volunteerism by involving communities nationwide in this project. We are so excited to see where this takes us and look forward to bringing light and magic to an otherwise very difficult time in the lives of little cancer fighters,” says Christensen.
Christensen decided to work to create wigs that are handmade with yarn. She knows that some cancer patients don’t like traditional wigs. “The chemotherapy leaves their skin very tender and sensitive”, said Christensen. “[The wigs] are made on soft crocheted beanies.”
The wigs are often based on Disney princesses, like Ariel’s flowing red hair from The Little Mermaid to the white hair and crown of Elsa in Frozen.“They’re based on the most favorite of the Disney princesses,” said Christensen. “Hopefully we’ll have a Jasmine [ from Aladdin] available soon.”
The Magic Yarn Project has grown from a small charity to a viral sensation with people from Alaska to Australia wanting to volunteer to make wigs for the brave girls.
“That’s been really neat,” said Christensen. “To bring a little bit of magic into such a difficult time in their life is so rewarding. It’s almost equally been so rewarding and magical to meet people who want to help.”
“At that moment, I knew it would be kind of special,” she said before helping several others with their projects. “But I didn’t anticipate that so many people would want to get involved, too.”
Women’s prisoners at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center have been making wigs for the patients as well as part of workshops and have been eager to help make wigs for the patients.
Christensen is glad to create a project that is so rewarding and that helps girls feel like princesses as they fight cancer like brave warriors.
“It creates a magical escape from the horrible reality that they’re in, the disease that they’re fighting,” she said.

Mahoney’s Garden Center is a family-run branch company who first opened in the state of Massachusetts in the year 1959. They are located in eight Massachusetts towns: Winchester, Tewksbury, Wayland, Concord, Brighton, Falmouth, Osterville and Chelmsford, as well as a growing facility in Woburn. The Mahoney’s store in Chelmsford is located off to the side of a busy road. The location allows for easy access for people driving by to turn right into the parking lot. On top of the plants and annual flowers, Mahoney’s provides a selection of bags of planting mix, as well as bags of mulch, depending on what the customers are looking to work on.
In the town of Woburn Massachusetts, Mahoney’s grows their plants locally during every season. The plants are grown in extra large pots that promote bigger, healthier root systems. Growing locally also keeps jobs local and reduces the fuel emissions needed to truck plants in from far away.

Contributing, obviously, is something he does well. He’s not so bad off the ice, either. The Stars center has teamed up with Uber, the international transportation network based in San Francisco, to raise money for the Dallas Stars Foundation. Details

Since customer care is very important, Mahoney’s provides the option of rewards cards. Mahoney’s Rewards is a free club where customers earn points every time they shop at one of the stores. Points are earned by every dollar you spend. This program works best for regular customers. When customers reach 250 points, five dollars is taken off their purchase. Other benefits include: exclusive sales, special offers and discounts. Automatically sent Emails provide advance notification of Mahoney’s popular sales, private invitation and events. Personal customer’s information is not shared with anyone.

During the New England winter season, the snow arrives around November and usually doesn’t end until early/mid March. The Chelmsford Mahoney’s location is four minutes away from Drum Hill Business District. Mahoney’s employees have the responsibility of shoveling snow away from businesses, sidewalks, clearing snow away from company dumpsters. Employees toss healthy amounts of ice melt onto the sidewalk pavement, around dumpsters, and behind business’. The ice is then thawed, which in turn allows the pavement accessible to walk on.
During the early winter season (late November – mid/late December) Mahoney’s brings in a large truck filled with Christmas trees to be unloaded. The trees are then divided by variety. A benefit for the employees are the tips they make from helping customers with finding and prepping their trees to be tied onto vehicle roofs or placed into the back of the vehicle.

Ashley Burnette: Making A Difference

Oct 19, 2015

By Luke Edward Hays

On August 27, 2010, Ashley Burnette, from Raleigh, North Carolina, was diagnosed with stage IV Neuroblastoma. Later, she developed evidence of PTLD, which stands for, Post-Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder. The cancer took a heavy toll on Ashley and her family.
The Good News Notebook Magazine is  exploring: What was the journey she took to beat two forms of cancer? And, how did Ashley’s experience of surviving two cancers inspire her to work with Hyundai Hope on Wheels?

Hyundai Hope On Wheels

Ashley was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma, which is a cancer that comes in many forms, but all forms have one similarity, it usually affects only children five years or under. Ashley is an exception to the five years or under rule, however. She was diagnosed at seven years old. The cancer developed through her immature nerve cells. The treatments began to take a toll on her body and her family. During her 150 nights in her hospital room, she experienced: seven week long rounds of chemotherapy, thirteen surgical procedures, a stem cell transplant, twelve days of external beam radiation, two rounds of MIBG therapy, five weeks in Pediatric ICU for antibodies infusions, numerous ER visits, over fifty blood and platelet transfusions, over hundred and fifty nights at the hospital and an infinite number of pokes. Ashley visited multiple surgeries to rid the cancer. Sadly, during the process Ashley developed a second cancer called, Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Her family visited eight different hospitals in five different states. In August 2012, after body scans where conducted, Ashley received the amazing news that all of her cancer was gone.

During the treatments, Ashley was approached and asked if she wanted to be a Patient Ambassador for the NC Children’s Hospital. She now speaks as a national youth ambassador for Hyundai Hope on Wheels. She travels across the United States to spread awareness for cancer. Ashley stated, “I mean, they are going through a lot right now.” Ashley Burnette is an excellent example of being in a difficult situation and turning what could turned out to be a highly negative experience, into an inspiring story. Hyundai Hope on Wheels is a nonprofit organization that raises money for childhood cancer awareness. Since Hyundai Hope On Wheels’ inception in 1998, they would have funded over $100 million dollars, by the end of 2015, for pediatric cancer research.

The Good News Notebook Magazine hopes Ashley’s story inspires other people with different forms of cancer to have the strength to see their way to the end of the tunnel.

Fall Gardening – A Quieter Time In The Garden?

Oct 7, 2015

Fall gardening doesn’t have to be the quietest time in the gardeners calendar. This article outlines just some of the activities that you can be keeping busy with in your garden this fall. These include growing vegetable in the fall, planting your spring bulbs and maintaining your lawns.

In the fall as the nights draw in and the days become shorter many people think that a quiet and restful time for the gardener is approaching and that it’s almost time to put the garden tools away in the shed till spring. While this may be true for the lawn mower, there are many other garden tools whose services can still be required during the fall.

For the more serious gardener who wants to continue to grow as late in the season as possible or who wants to optimize his lawn and garden in preparation for next year. There is still much gardening that can be done, both in growing vegetables and preparing and planning your garden for next spring, until well into the fall.

With the constant possibility of early winter frosts many gardeners don’t even consider fall gardening. This is a pity as with the right planning, planting the most suitable plants and at the right time of year, the rewards can be well worth the extra work. As often, for example, vegetables, produced in the fall can be sweeter and tastier than those grown in the height of the summer. This can bring a refreshing new dimension to some of the same old varieties of garden vegetables.

It is important, however, to choose vegetables with a short growing season to give the best chance of harvesting before the more severe frosts do make an appearance. Vegetables that can be ideal to grow well into the fall include carrots, beet, lettuce, broccoli, turnips and radish. They should be planted while the ground is still warm and in a place where they are likely to get a minimum of six hours of sunshine.

Fall is also the best time to plant your spring bulbs, especially the hardy varieties such as crocuses, daffodils, tulips and irises and these will do well in either containers or beds. They will flower in the spring so you can look forward to their colourful displays as an early sign of the arrival of spring, which should be ample reward for your additional work and planning in the fall.

Looking after and maintaining your lawn is another task you can be busy with in the fall to enhance your chances of a luscious lawn next spring. It is an ideal time to concentrate on factors like aeration of the soil and clearing debris accumulated over the summer growing season. You should remove any twigs, stones and fallen leaves from your lawns as these can harbor disease and encourage pests. A leaf blower or garden vacuum will make this task much easier and you should, of course, keep all of the organic material for composting.

Aerating disrupts the soil surface by making holes in the earth. This can be done manually with a garden fork or a number of tools can be used to make the work easier, or if you have a larger area to deal with. This allows more oxygen into the soil and water will also gain easier access, rather than simply running off. Earthworms will thrive better in this environment as well as a number of other beneficial organisms. Fertilizers and other top dressing substances will be more effective after aeration and it makes re-seeding, if necessary, more successful.

These are just a few of the tasks that can be keeping you busy in your garden during the fall. So if you want a beautiful garden in the spring it’s not quite time to lock away those garden tools just yet.

Hobbies: A Source of Wellness

Sep 9, 2015

By Roberto Figueroa

Hobbies are much more than activities we do for fun or things we engage in because we like them. They can be channels through which we can experience personal growth, expand our social circle, and receive physical and emotional benefits. Here are some reasons why having a hobby is a good investment of time and energy.

Reboots The Brain
Today, many of us live busy, rushed lives, struggling to balance our time between work, home, and family. As a result, our minds constantly tackle multiple problems at the same time, overwhelming our brains in the process. Because hobbies are single tasks that require concentration (like reading a book, woodworking, or playing soccer) they give our minds the opportunity to shut off the multitude of thoughts by focusing our minds on the task at hand. This streamlines our thoughts and allows our brain to take a break and relax, leaving us refreshed and renewed.

Opportunity To Be Ourselves
Hobbies can also give us a way to express ourselves and explore parts of our personality that we wouldn’t otherwise be able to. Arts, crafts, sports, and even collecting can be great channels for self-‐expression. This can be especially healthy for those of us that spend most of our days doing something that doesn’t permit us to show who we are. So in many ways, hobbies help us define ourselves, and can give us a since of purpose.

They Connect Us With People With Similar Interests
It is true that hobbies can help us find a place of solitude, but even those that prefer to engage in solitary activities can’t hide their excitement when interacting with someone that likes to do the same activities as they do. Solitary gardeners can spend hours talking with the floor associate at their local gardening shop, and even book enthusiasts find it hard to contain their glee when they meet another avid reader.
It’s in our nature to want to connect with people that share our same interests, and hobbies can be a great way of entering new social circles and making friends.

Strengthens Our Self-‐Esteem And Releases Stress
Developing and mastering a skill fills us with a sense of accomplishment that boosts our confidence and self-‐esteem, both of which positively impact how we lead other areas of our lives. Hobbies also allow us to put our worries aside, and the mental focus h enlthey provide help us release accumulated stress, which makes us feel happier and helps us be more productive at work and at home.

Young Stanford Graduate Cracks The Code

Aug 27, 2015

By Laura Duncanson
Dithapelo Medupe, who mostly goes by Ditha, is the type of girl that blends into her surroundings; she’s a quiet introvert who enjoys running, watching TV, reading and writing about African culture. But she is more than what meets the eye; she is the inventor of an African binary code based board game called “Temalo Code and Decode”.
Ditha grew up in the African country of Botswana and due to her academic excellence, was awarded a scholarship to do a post-secondary school year in America. During this opportunity, she was able to apply to universities in the United States and received a full scholarship to an Ivy League school Stanford University, to study premed. After Stanford, she went onto study medicine at St. George’s University which she has recently completed. When Good News Notebook Magazine asked about her biggest struggle adjusting between the schooling in Botswana and America she said the learning is a lot faster paced in America. She found herself utilizing study groups and resources that teach you how to study.

image-10

The game first came to her during her years of undergrad at Stanford University, when she was studying premed and for a short time computer science. She was introduced to the binary code of computers which in a few years she saw a similar notion being used in African history. Becoming excited about her discovery, she began researching and compiling as much information as she could about publishing games. All of this led to the birth of “Temalo Code and Decode”, which is available for purchase online. Her discovery did not go unnoticed as she has had it featured in the US Journal of Mathematics and Culture.

She aspires to make her game well recognized and bring awareness to culture in a fun educational way. Since the game has been made, it has been successfully shipped from the US to UK and Africa. There has also been an interest spiked in the Ministry of Education in Botswana to evaluate the game for implementation in secondary schools throughout the country. This young woman is making strides in African innovation while juggling medical school. Outside of her game making, she is an active member of the African Student Association as well as a joint blogger for doctors and medical students from Botswana.

Her biggest influence is her mother who always encouraged her dreams and ideas from a very young age. She told a story about when she was 11 and had written a book, her mother took her to publishers to get the book known. Although it took a while, her book is being used in schools in Botswana as required reading for language classes. She credits all of her success to her mother who is a huge part of her life even until this day. The one person she would have liked to meet was Steve Jobs because of his inspirational can do attitude and self-starter spirit. In 5 years, she would like to be practicing medicine in Africa and on the road to specialty training. In terms of “Temalo Code and Decode”, her desire is that the game would be played in households and schools throughout Africa and would be something that is passed on through generations. At this time, she is already working on another form of the game and has more ideas in the making.
Her advice for our readers is that you have to believe in your dreams, “make sure you are well knowledgeable and research all you can so that you’re well informed. Only then will you be equipped to convince others”.

Squash Medley

Aug 17, 2015

By Erica MacLeod

Summer is great time to pick up fresh produce at the grocery store. One of the most versatile vegetables to pick up in the summer is squash. There are many different types and many ways to cook it. Below is a quick recipe for a summertime side dish loaded with veggies.

Spaghetti squash is a staple in this recipe and is very easy to work with. Pre-cooking it will save time and hassle. To pre-cook spaghetti squash, halve it lengthwise and remove the seeds from the center. Preheat the oven to 375 and place the squash cut side down on a cookie sheet. Bake the squash for approximately 35 minutes. Baking times will vary upon the size of the squash. When the squash is fully cooked, the rind will be soft and the inside of the squash will pull away from the rind easily in strands similar to spaghetti. Let the squash cool, then use a fork to pull the meat from the rind. From here, the squash can be bagged up and frozen for future use or used right away to make the squash medley.

The squash medley is a very flexible recipe, using a variety of different vegetables. The base of the squash medley is spaghetti squash, yellow squash, and zucchini. Other great additions to the recipe are carrots, mushrooms, sweet corn, garlic, peppers, and onions.

Chop up the desired vegetables into small pieces. In a large pan, add two tablespoons of olive oil and preheat it over medium heat. Add the chopped vegetables to the oil and lightly sauté them until they are just softening. If using a variety of vegetables, cook harder vegetables, like carrots, first, then softer vegetables, like zucchini, after to ensure all the vegetables reach the same tenderness. Add the pre-cooked spaghetti squash last, adding another tablespoon of olive oil if needed, and toss well. Allow the medley to cook for another few minutes to heat thoroughly. Serve with grated Parmesan on top and enjoy.

Youngest Pediatric Resident at Mount Sinai?

Aug 13, 2015

By Laura Duncanson

Rasheedah Andrews is like your typical 22 year old; she enjoys shopping, hanging out with her girlfriends and eating Thai food. But unlike others her age, she’s also the face you might see if you bring your child to the emergency room. She is 22 years old and in her first year of her Pediatric Residency at Elmhurst Hospital Center – Mount Sinai in New York, making her the youngest in her department.
GrenadaHailing from the small island of Grenada, Rasheedah decided from a young age that she wanted to do medicine. Her interest in Pediatrics and medicine on a whole stemmed from her aunt, who is a local Pediatrician as well as one of her younger cousins who has Down syndrome. These factors along with a thirst for knowledge propelled her academically and emotionally. Education wise, she found herself graduating high school at 15, getting her bachelors and entering medical school at St. Georges University School of Medicine from the young tender age of 18. Despite her young age, she doesn’t allow that to hinder her desire to help; from volunteering at local children’s home and elderly homes, she’s always trying to give back to her community. Currently she has an initiative in place which is targeted towards Diabetes and Hypertension in the community that she hopes would improve the level of healthcare offered towards this populace in Grenada. Making pediatrics her career choice, she hopes to become one of the few licensed Pediatricians in her home country.

Medical school wasn’t easy at such a young age. The Good News Notebook Magazine (GNN) asked what was the main  obstacle she has had to face,  “self-doubt” and credits her survival emotionally to a close relationship with God, great group of friends, her mother and her aunt. She has had nervous breakdowns like everyone else but despite that, she still managed to graduate with honors, regular inductee of the Dean’s list and Chancellor list. She gives  acknowledgment to her family for allowing her to follow her dreams and not holding her back in school. She is currently a member of a few organizations such as AAP, IFMSA and a recipient of Grenada National Scholarship which funded her education.

The  two people she told GNN she would have loved to have met was Nelson Mandela and Maya Angelo because they touched people with their words and actions. As far as her future is concerned, she would like to return to Grenada and improve the quality of healthcare in the realm of pediatrics by making it affordable to those who can’t afford. Her biggest role models are her mom and her aunt.

Her words for The Good News Notebook Magazine readers are,” not to give up”, “put in the work and keep focus”. “Although you’ll be faced with a lot of obstacles and negativity, don’t listen too much to what people have to say and just believe in yourself”.
It’s safe to say, her story is an example of hard work, determination and amazing support system.

Fulfilling Jobs for Diplomat Personality Types

Aug 10, 2015

By Devon Barrs

Not sure of which personality you most align with? Take the test over at 16personalities.

There are sixteen different personality types broken up into four groups: diplomats, analysts, sentinels, and explorers, and everyone aligns with one. These different personality types affect our lives and the way we tend to want to live. Finding a fulfilling career is tough; many people will jump from one profession to another in search of that one place where they wouldn’t mind forming a routine around. Others search for the job that will give them the most fulfillments with the most freedom, while some just can’t seem to stand still in one field.

This article will explore several career paths for the Diplomatic personality types. There are four types that fall under this category: INFJ, INFP, ENFJ, and ENFP.

INFJ (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging)

This personality type is dedicated to helping others, idea driven and thrive in work that they can find meaning in. Those who fall under this type are very insightful, intelligent individuals and therefore tend to lend themselves over to their creativity. Jobs in healthcare, science, and artistic fields can be quite rewarding for the INFJ personality type.

Photography is a creative field that allows INFJs to express themselves and yields a great amount of creative freedom, not to mention photography work is in good demand.

INFJs are referred to as the counselor of the Diplomat personality group. So its no surprise that they can find purpose in helping others and that desire to do so can be reflected in the role of social worker. This job involves the ability to walk in another shoes and to understand them in hopes to make a positive impact on another person’s life.

Alternative health is another field where an INFJ can find meaning in improving the overall quality of someone’s life. Work such as massage therapist, physical therapist, or nutritionist is a good way their desire to help others with their intellectual ability.

INFP (Introverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving)

INFPs are mediators of sorts. Imaginative idealists, they look for the good in everyone and in the world. These are your calm and reserved types that thrive in solo work.

Writing is a flexible career that the expressive INFP will thrive in, and in this current day where writers are needed to create content from corporate to creative fields, there is ample work for the INFP.

INFPs are long-term thinkers; they tend to invest a lot of time in preparing for their future as well as that future of those around them. Work as a teacher can be rewarding for INFPs. This isn’t due only to fact that they are extremely creative and inspirations, but they also value long lasting relationships and take the time to foster that.

INFPs are true artist and will thrive in any artistic field. Music is one of the better choices for those who fall under that personality type. INFPs look at the bigger picture but tend to dislike the small minute details. Music is one of those collaborative environments where they are able to express their big ideas while others help work on the in between to make it happen.

ENFJ: (Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Judging)

ENFJs are charismatic leaders that are full of passion. These teacher personality types find fulfillment in group work. They are altruistic by nature and take pride when others recognize their work.

ENFJs may enjoy work in public relations, event management, and like other Diplomats, work in creative fields such as photography. Unlike the INFJ and INFP, the ENFJ has much potential when it comes to interacting with a team for extended periods of time, therefore work in media production may suit these types well.

Their ability to connect with others makes them perfect for work in entertainment as a director, or even a producer. The film market is steadily growing and more opportunities are arising in this thriving industry.

ENFJs can also find work as a lawyer extremely fulfilling; they will thrive in this field where they advise and represent clients in court while effectively communicating to the court of law.

ENFP (Extroverted, Intuitive, Feeling, Perceiving)

ENFPs are campaigners or inspirational leaders that use a combination of logic and empathy to connect and lead others. They are not controlling and have no desire to do so.

These personality types will thrive in creative fields such as journalism, acting, and graphic/web design. Intellectual fields such as science and engineering gives the ENFP the opportunity to apply their intellect, while an interest in social issues can sprout a rewarding career in politics.

Blogging on issues that they are passionate about can be very stimulating while giving the ENFP the chance to make a living. Journalism provides the room to explore a wide array of topics while working on campaigns that they are passionate about.

Psychology is another field that allows this personality type to connect with others while guiding them through deep personal issues. This is rewarding in on its own since, like all Diplomats, ENFPs enjoy getting involved with others and listening to their problems.

The Diplomat personality types are caring, lovable people who value relationships and personal virtue over all else. They work out of passion and need to find a career path where they know they are helping others. To explore a list of career paths for your personality type, take the test at 16personalities.com.

Your Dreams Are Possible According To 21 Year Old Entrepreneur

Aug 5, 2015

By Laura Duncanson
Do you remember what you were doing when you were 21 years old? A few of you were probably in college studying while others were partying as much as they could due to their new sense of being legal. Not many of us at that age knew what we wanted to do with life, it was something that we would deal with when we got older, but this is exactly the opposite mentality of our interviewee Darron Hilaire.  Darron is a 21 year old activist and entrepreneur from the Turks and Caicos Islands who has a heart for youth and social development. At 21 he has already successfully started a television series, spearheaded an annual activist movement as well as single handedly changed how this small country sees journalism.

Turks and CaicosDarron Hilaire is a growing entrepreneur, former journalist, former youth parliamentarian and writer from the beautiful country of Turks and Caicos Islands. He was one of the few male anchors, sports reporter and also owns his own production and events company Hilaire studios. Currently, he’s the marketing and communications executive for a local telecommunication company known as Lime and in his spare time likes to read and inspire others. The Good News Notebook Magazine (GNN) asked what was the biggest obstacle he has had to face so far, he said self-imposed restrictions and self-defeating thoughts which he counters with reassurance and his faith in God.

Despite his humbling beginnings, growing up fatherless, enduring abuse and depression, Darron still finds himself reaching out and passionate about being a change in his community. He is looked upon as an inspirational individual in the community already as people are starting to see him for what he stands for and flock to hear his wise words and input. When asked about his future in politics he says he sees himself more as an activist, a bridging gap between the people and the government just ensuring things get done. His annual event Manpower TCI, which is targeted towards getting the community together to work on the alleviation in crime and cause a change in the mentality of the country, is just one of the few things he’s doing in the community. He also hosts his own weekly series Awakening Possibilities which main purpose is to tell the stories of successful individuals in life, marriage and business as a means of encouraging others. Both of these are fruits of his business Hiliare Studios. In the future he hopes to see himself and his business being taken to the Caribbean region and international.
GNN asked who inspired him the most, he listed 5 influential individuals Superintendent Kendall Grant, former Director of Youth Angela Musgrove, well known comedian Steve Harvey, global activist Oprah Winfrey and last but no means least God. These individuals saw in him what no one else did, inspired him on what a man should be when he lacked the necessary role model in the home, taught him about life as well as following your dreams. Out of these he said he’d like to meet Steve Harvey the most as he has so much to ask.

His advice for our readers about following their dreams is simple yet profound at the same time: your dreams are possible. He further went on to say,” until we believe our dreams are possible we won’t be able to access or invest in them“.

3 Steps To Help Manage Our Money

Jul 30, 2015

By Roberto Figueroa

Everywhere we go we hear about the importance of managing our money, and as we venture further into the complexities and routine of adult life, we discover that it is an important discipline to learn and master. Here are three steps we can take to set us on the right track.

Establish Goals
Goals help us focus our energy and effort. They give us an incentive to sacrifice certain things in order to achieve what we have set out to obtain. If we think about it, we are more likely to use those extra 50 dollars wisely if we are saving up or looking to invest it in something that will help us reach a goal. Goals could be anything from a new car, remodeling your home, paying off loans, to going on a vacation you normally wouldn’t be able to afford.
We begin doing this by first making a list of our goals and jot down where we would like to be or what we would like to acquire a month, a year, or five years from now. Then, let’s think about what are the most important things on our list and think about how to get there.

Evaluate
Now, let’s try to think about the ways we are using our money. Are we being wise? Are there ways we can cut back some of our expenses? Something as simple as eating at home more often instead of eating out can make a significant difference.

Budget
Though it can be tiring to hear about budgeting, it’s an effective way to insure we have enough money to pay the bills. But too many of us stop there. Once the bills are paid and we have dealt with our obligations, we stop managing our money and spend (or sometimes waste) the rest. Now, everyone has the right to enjoy what he or she earns, but creating a budget for the left over money, and placing a limit on how much to spend, is a good way to make sure we are not overspending. It also keeps us from living from paycheck to paycheck, a life style that can generate unwanted stress and insecurity.

Remodeling Tips to Refresh Your Home

Jul 19, 2015

If you have not done anything for years to refresh the visual appearance of your home it is time to reward yourself and your home by freshening it up. Many people tend to undertake big improvement projects pretty occasionally. Do-it-yourself project or a professional contractor – the choice is your but there are some pretty small things that can really make a huge impression. It is important to mention that many people aim at ecologically friendly home improvements. Going green in your home is not only about changing your housekeeping practices. Still, for green house cleaners London has many sensible solutions. Whether installing a solar panel, changing the light bulbs or simply having a nice green lawn to grow your own organic food, it is certainly a good idea to think of doing something green for your home and family.

house plants

The first thing is that a project should never be started without having a clear plan of what you want to improve, how and then – the way of proceedings. It may be a new flooring, installing carpets or deep cleaning the old ones, repairing your terrace and balcony and many more. Never rush into repairs as many people tend to make the mistake to not research their contractor well enough and blindly trust the company. Asking person who has experience and is satisfied with the work done it is a good idea on how to find the best one. Next up, if you are about to hire the contractor, the company’s representatives must remember you to carry out an inspection to assess the work to be done, how long is needed for the project to be finished, and more. You can always ask for opinions and solutions for a particular repair or for the overall appearance.

Then, it is all about the budget. This is the only thing left for consideration before actually starting the process. Make sure you calculate everything perfect and always remember to have some extra money for unpredicted circumstances. A common mistake is to start improving your home without being sure if you are going to fit in your budget.Interior improvements significantly depend on the type of furniture, wall paint and accessories chosen. Fresh paint can really make your home shine.

Then, it is not all about the appearance of your furniture, it is about comfort and convenience. If everything fits and there is enough space left around the rooms, then your choices are right. Still, cleaning the furniture is as important as choosing the right pieces. This is why for furniture cleaning, London has many reliable service providers that can make sure your furnishing looks as new as possible.

Six Strategies to Maintain Your Femininity in the World of Business

Jun 29, 2015

If you are a woman in leadership, or own your own business, I’m guessing you have heard something like this before:
“You have to be tough, aggressive, and rigorously competitive. Don’t show weakness or vulnerability. If you do, you’ll instantaneously lose respect. Emotions have no place in business!”

But, if you have ever seen a momma bear protecting her cubs, you know that the feminine force is in no way weak.

Natalie Peace Contributor at Forbes Magazine alludes to this metaphor in her article entitled, “The Awesome Power of Femininity in Business” and goes on to say:

“Visionary women have helped shift the landscape, showing us new models of leadership that include natural feminine qualities like softness, kindness, giving and emoting. Authentic relating has become the focus of many organizations committed to fostering team dynamics where people feel safe and supported in doing their best work.”
http://www.forbes.com/sites/nataliepeace/2012/05/09/the-awesome-power-of-femininity-in-business/

Things to Consider in Cultivating Your Authentic Feminine Self in the World of Business:
(These concepts, in great part, are inspired by my mentor and coach extraordinaire, Stacey Martino)

•  You don’t have to be taught HOW to be feminine. The truth is, you know how instinctively. The learning process comes into play in learning how to drop your protective barrier that keeps you from being the natural you.
•  Femininity isn’t about how you look. It’s not about your clothing, hairstyle, make-up or jewelry. Instead, it’s about you are ‘being’, which emanates from the inside.
•  The core quality of femininity is openness. Feminine energy takes it all in, is vulnerable, nurturing, welcoming, energetic, seeks pleasure, able to feel everything and enjoys the ebb and flow of a wide range of emotions.
•  It is a woman’s ultimate power; femininity is NOT a weakness. Just ask Super Woman! She is full of power, yet incredibly feminine.
•  Consider cultivating your femininity in your personal life through dancing, taking bubble baths, listening to music, laughing, burning candles, using potpourri, incense and/or perfume, or putting on your favorite soft or silky outfit.
•  Ask yourself questions like: How open am I on a regular basis on a scale of 1 to 10? In what ways do I shut down to protect myself? How do I pull away, care less and distance myself?

To Keep Your Virgin Hair Extensions From Shedding & Tangling

Jun 11, 2015
It does not matter what vendor you purchase your hair from your virgin hair will shed. If your natural hair can shed of course hair on a track/weft will shed also, it’s normal.

Excessive shedding, thick strands and clumps of hair should not be coming out. To make sure your hair does not shed excessively follow the instructions below.

Do not co-wash hair using shampoo. Use conditioner only. Shampoos are only meant to clean the hair from products and oil build up. The excessive use of shampoo can actually cause hair to dry, harden and frizz up which leads to breakage and shedding.

Do not punch the sew-in needle through the wefts during installation; this leads to increase in shedding and lessens the quality of the hair. If you are getting a sew-in weave, make sure that your stylist sews in the wefts by looping and tying the weave thread under and over the weft.

Keep the use of curling, flat irons, and other excessive use of heating tools to a minimum. The more heat you use on virgin hair – the shorter the lifespan. As with your own natural hair, heat causes breakage and shedding. You can safely use heat when you apply a heat protectant to the hair because it will block the high temperatures and prevent hair breakage. Curling irons are not always necessary for styling. Flexi-rods, perm rollers, and steam roller will set your hair to your perfect desired style without heat. These items can be purchased at your local beauty supply retailer, Walgreens, Target or Walmart stores.

Wear a satin scarf over your hair at night. A secure satin scarf will keep your hair from snagging, drying out and breaking during your sleep.
Image result for satin scarf
Keep your hands out of your hair.  Playing in your hair causes damage. When you are constantly running your fingers and hands through your hair all the time, yanking, and tugging at the weft. Whether or not you realize it – you are pulling your hair out. Although it may take some getting used to, it’s very important to keep your hands out of your hair.

When Chastain was asked why he felt the need to hold such an event he stated, “The county Chairman & CEO Richard Oden said it was not in the county’s budget”. The bright young man did not let lack of finances stop him from helping his community. He started asking companies and individuals for any type of donation they could offer. Chastain had a budget of zero dollars when he hosted the first Annual Job Fair and a budget of $100.00 dollars this go around. Both Job Fairs drew over 300 hundred individuals, this is the number the poll collected, many applicants slipped past the poll and did not log in.

In 2 months his Facebook group, Rockdale Jobs Group, has put 88 Unemployed Rockdale Citizens back to work. (per Facebook page)

Chastain said he had few donors for this event, but the one that is a continuous supporter made a huge impact for both job fairs. Veteran of Foreign Wars (VFW Post 5290) in Rockdale has been the biggest supporter and sponsor. VFW donated their building and equipment to host the event.

The Job Fair brought some big companies out, like Pratt Industries, Future Staffing, Rockdale 911, Rockdale Fire Department, Rockdale Sheriff  Department, Southeast Sealing, and Banner Security to name a few.
