One Georgia family has adopted seven siblings together after 1,359 days of being in foster care. It began 2 years ago when Josh, and her wife, Jessaka Clark wanted to adopt children. In April 2016, the couple learned about their super seven and initiated plans of providing them shelter as stated in Channel 2’s Kimberly Richardson. Jessaka mentioned how the kids had been waiting for everything to get settled in court.
“They moved in with us on Aug. 5th and have been waiting every day for our court date to finalize,” said Jessaka Clark.
The long awaited day finally arrived on May 9th and the couple were on their way to finalize the adoption in the courthouse. Josh Clark showed the excitement felt by the whole family by posting an adorable video on his Facebook page. Before the adoption, Josh Clark’s statement showed how happy the family was having been brought together by the couples.
“We are all super excited,” He said. “They have been up since 6 screaming and running around the house.”
It began with a family of three and now they were a family of 10 including Maria, Elizabet, Jason, Kristina, Guillermo, Noah, James and Katerin. The couples, Jessaka and Josh made the family complete and held the thought that they would never change despite the difficulties they are likely to face in future.
“We love our family, and as difficult as it can be, we wouldn’t change it,” said Jessaka Clark.
Noah, the Clark’s biological son held up a sign which read, “I was an only child for 1,426 days. But today, May 9, 2017, I became a little brother.” This was after finalization of the adoption at the courthouse. Jessaka Clark told Richardson of how her heart has had a huge place for adoption, the fact that she had grown with her foster parents most of her life.
Her parents adopted two brothers after 5 years. Ever since that transpired, they took a new role in providing assistance to children who are having difficult times and have aged out of the system. The Clarks hoped that their story would bring a little light on the crisis that was trending in the country of children who were fatherless.

Danny Dwyer, a former Boston Police officer, intends to show his appreciation to the community by running in the Boston Marathon this year. Before he had a moment of clarity, Dwyer had lived for four years under a bridge in Boston North End. Dwyer eventually committed to starting a fresh after finding the treatment for his drug addiction. His motive is to inspire people who are going through similar battles that he had at some point in his lifetime.
Dwyer told CBS Boston of how he was first introduced to drugs. Marijuana was his introductory drug at the age of eight years and advanced to a variety of substances over time. He said that he had begun to build a tolerance. “You know, sleeping pills and smoking marijuana,” said Dwyer. Despite the fact that Dwyer was using drugs in his early life, it did not prevent him from developing his law enforcement career. Before he became a Boston police officer, he had served in the Air Force, Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department, and the Air National Guard.
Dwyer injured his knee in the process of chasing after an armed robbery suspect, bringing his career to a halt. He became used to the opioid painkillers which at that time proved useful in nursing his injuries. He told CBS Boston with the bitterness of how he was stuck in such a situation as a police officer. “I’m afraid to tell anybody about it because I am so embarrassed and ashamed that I failed, that’s how I felt, you know?” said Dwyer. His continued use of opioids made him lose everything.
Dwyer said that somewhere along the way, there was a breakdown. He cannot categorize it if it was physical, moral or whether there was an occurrence that led towards the progression. Having lost his home in the undertaking, Dwyer admitted to having overdosed twice. “I remember being angry when I was brought back. I felt like I couldn’t even die correctly”, he said.
He found the inspiration to change his life for the better. He told CBS Boston about his conscience of not wanting to die in that kind of a situation but to be remembered for the good things he had done. “I just had this moment of clarity that, I’m going to die and I don’t want to die like this” said Dwyer. He came to the decision of running after checking into treatment regarding his drug use.
Dwyer will be among the 30,000 participants in Boston Marathon on 17th April running in the 26.2-mile distance. Lazarus House received more than $8,000 that was raised by Dwyer to show his appreciation in giving back to the community. Lazarus House is a homeless shelter and food pantry situated in Lawrence, Massachusetts. Dwyer feels that he can be a symbol of hope to other people by participating in the Boston Marathon. Since he can reach his hands back, he believes that with that responsibility people would have the idea that not everything is always perfect, but they can always find a solution to a problem.
“You need to allow people around you to help you and show you a way out. You need to start building that of foundation”, Dwyer expressed his initiative to the CBS Boston.

My heart cracked open after the birth of my first son. I felt the urge to protect him with everything I had should anything, or anyone squeeze it accidentally.
After I had my son, it dawned on me why my husband would volunteer to save his kids but leave me to die in the burning house. I would also do the same, to save my only biological son. I came to understand how high a parent love is and what they do feel for their kids. The other five older kids were awesome and deserved the parents’ love, but my heart felt rigid, and I couldn’t love them deeply as their father. It seemed to me as a terrible sin. The jealousy I had previously started deteriorating over time, and I developed bits of tenderness and love to my step children too. Despite my love towards them, I could not compare it to my son of which I would be willing to change that if hypnotized or given a pill.

When you exclude siblings, or give one something that the other never had will cause jealousy. Example: New children play extra activities and are supported by parents, where as the other siblings were not encouraged or supported when doing activities.
4. Separate Them When Introducing
Yes you had children before your new family or maybe you had them afterwards. However when you are out and you run into someone and they ask, “oh are these your children?” Your response should not be, “these are my kids and those are my spouse kids”. Those words will stick with them forever and they will always feel you think and look at them separately and not part of the new family.
5. Make Them Feel They Are In The Way
We are going to the store with the kids, you all stay here.
Watching TV with one set on kids and when the others come in, you say “we were doing good until you all came in with all that noise”.
6. Talk About Kids To The Other Kids
Horrible, Horrible, Horrible, this is a big no no. Any negative thing one sibling did, done, or do should not be shared with the other siblings. It can be done in a family meeting, so that everyone can comment at one time, not shared to give the perception one child is worst or better than the other.
7. Compare Children
Why don’t you do like she/he does.
You are fatter than she/he is.
You should take a note from she/he and dress like that.
8. Talk About Biological Parents That Do Not Live In Home
Do not allow you current spouse to talk bad about your children parents. It does not matter to children what their parents have done they will love them still. Children will lash out in other ways when their parents are attacked and unable to defend themselves.
9. Make Sibling Call Each Other Step
Step-brother/Sister is not endearing so encourage siblings to say, “my sister”, my brother. You start first by saying go help your sister/brother, where is your sister/brother, or tell you sister/brother its time to eat.
10. Treat Them Different
If you give one something then make sure they all get it, unless one says they do not want it or say they are too old for it. Example: Everyone gets a cake on their birthday, everyone gets an Easter basket for Easter. Punishment should be handled by both parents in home, not I am going to let your father/mother handle you. Both parents should sit down with the child and tell them why they are in trouble. It is a cope-out when one parent tells the other parent to “handle your own child.” This can be interpreted as the step-parent does not care or does not want to be a parent to the new children.
When you decided to married or be in a relationship with someone that has children you are taking on a huge responsibility. If you feel you cannot be an asset to a new family or you do not have enough love in your heart to love other children, you should not be with someone with children. Consider all parties involved before making a decision to become a step-parent. The actions you make today good or bad could last a lifetime.

Your product could be A one, however if the person at the front desk or over the phone is rude you can very easily loose a customer.

Ads abound for cosmetic surgery, encouraging us to “repair” our aging bodies, as if the natural process of aging were a disease. Yet with all this ceaseless effort, they still never feel like they are good enough.
Yet, feeling good enough and worthy of love starts with accepting and loving yourself. And loving yourself starts with caring for yourself. Make a plan to do one thing that will help you excel physically, intellectually, emotionally, even spiritually. Making just one change for the better will boost your attitude from the inside out. You can actually choose what you want to change or improve. Things you do most are the ones you may choose to focus on. A simple task doesn’t take that long. Little things add up. It’s amazing, really.
The seemingly meaningless things you do for yourself may not have immediate results, but after just a short while, they’ll have you looking and feeling better. So add those bubbles to your bath, make sure you eat your vegetables, get enough sleep, think of doing something good for yourself when you have nothing to do, and the results will be worth it.
In the meantime, remember that the journey is just as important, maybe more, as the destination. To get that attitude going the right direction, you need to appreciate your face and body for what it is. It may be unrealistic to tell yourself to love it, but you certainly shouldn’t hate it, either.
If you take a look at any success story and grasp the one element of similarity between them, you’ll notice that virtually every self-made, successful person has this one super-important object of success in their mind- a burning desire to succeed. What counts is your mindset. Age, location, ethnic origin, gender, or any other perceived disadvantage have no part in your attitude to become what you desire. As a matter of fact, there are so many real life “underdog” stories out there. There are people who have been under-educated, considered too old, too fat, too ugly, discriminated against, abused, had little or no support, and left for dead that have found riches, fame and tremendous success. But most importantly, they found a deep inner joy that no one could steal from them.
To start you journey today, consider this: conduct a research project and find someone who has had similar struggles as you, has them in a big way, and make them your new role model. Find out everything you can about them, put their picture on your bathroom mirror, print a quote of theirs that inspires you and put it on the frig, read their biography or blog, flood your mind with where they’ve and where they are now and what you perceive it took to get there. Lastly, fill yourself with faith that if they can do it, so can you!

Being a barber is about taking care of people and this barber in Iowa takes this quote to a whole other level. The small town of Dubuque, Iowa has been receiving a lot of media attention recently as local barber Courtney Holmes has given a whole new meaning to getting a haircut. He has been giving haircuts to local kids in exchange for them reading him a book.
Courtney Holmes is a 45 year old barber who recently moved from Chicago with his wife Sarah and two sons Jackson and Josiah. Upon moving to Dubuque, he joined the Black Man Coalition, which is a nonprofit organization that helps inner city African American youths prepare for college, jobs and life by giving them a sense of empowerment. Because of his busy schedule, he said he was not able to be as active in the group as he would have liked but told the coordinator of the group if there was anything he could do such as give out free haircuts please let him know. And who would have thought that tiny suggestion would have caused such a tremendous effect.
At the local Annual Back to School Bash where the Dubuque Black Men Coalition was volunteering, they had Mr. Holmes set up between 12 and 4 to give haircuts to the local kids in exchange for reading books. He told The Good News Notebook that he was so surprised about the response of the event; children from kindergarten all the way up to the middle school, read books from a nearby stall as well as the few he brought from home which he would read nightly to his own sons. He gave out 10-15 haircuts during that 4 hour period and had to give out his business card to the other children eagerly waiting to take him up on this offer. “The kids were so excited and had a lot of energy…everyone was motivating and encouraging each other to read…if any of the kids started having difficulty reading, I’d help them out as well” was one of the few things that excited Mr. Holmes about the whole experience.
Since the event there have been a lot of people donating books, backpacks and shirts to the movement. The owner of the salon he works at, Amanda Troutman, has also joined in by approving haircuts for reading in house on a monthly basis. He hopes his act is an encouragement to others and goes to nearby cities and countries at large. In the school system, there are kids that read below their grade level and this could be a way to help tackle this issue. He sais that it’s important to help the kids and help the parents.
He gives glory to God and is humbled just to be a willing servant to do His work. He wants our GNN readers to know whatever you do, do it from your heart. Just one kind gesture can have such a big response. His experience with this event personally, ‘felt like throwing a pebble in the pond to cause a big ripple.’ Thank you Mr. Holmes for being that pebble and we look forward to others taking the initiative as well.
Not only does Stephen Curry II play basketball like a boss, the Golden State Warriors point guard likes to use his celebrity to give people continents away a better shot at longevity. Were it not for him, a good number of African children and their families would contact malaria. Malaria; which comes with chills, fever and sweating in cycles; often has death riding on its coat tails. It comes from the bite of infected female mosquitoes.
In many cases, children die from this preventable disease. Curry had advocated for insecticide-treated bed nets, and made his own contributions toward that end. Such nets can keep infected mosquitoes out of beds and other sleeping areas.
Along with The United Nations Foundation, Rick Reilley founded the Nothing But Nets program. This initiative is the globe’s largest grassroots campaign in place to prevent mosquito-borne malaria from spreading in Africa. Statistics show that in Africa one child a minute succumbs to the disease. MVP Curry, sometimes referred to as Stephen, discovered that a mere $10 could substantially decrease the likelihood that someone under a net’s protection would be bitten by mosquitoes. In fact, Stephen has been a champion for this cause since he was a college student.
The official “Nothing But Net” website indicates that Curry birthed the idea of a three for three challenge; where he committed to send three bed nets for every three point shot he completed during the 2012 and 2013 season. The season was trumpeted as a banner year for him, as he made a record with 272 shots. This translated to 816 bed nets, or 816 families that received this protection.
He has not slowed down in his commitment to fuel the campaign to save lives and to eradicate malaria off the face of this earth.
World Malaria Day, which occurs on April 25th, is a day when a more intensified and collective focus is given toward the quest of raising donations of nets, money, and awareness of this-waving measure. On this day, there is a million nets pledge. Curry is active in that day of focus.
All throughout the year there is also the concerted effort to gather more of what’s referred to as “bzzzkill” participants. These are people who seek to influence their friends and family members to donate nets to the cause. In addition, they seek to have more voices lifted to Capital Hill to express concerns that everything be done to get nets into the African communities that desperately need nets and that those needing the inexpensive aid can’t wait. If it’s a positive thing, and it’s attached to providing nets for African families in mosquito-laden areas in Africa, Curry’s made sure he stays attached and active.

The time we live in has changed measurably and the old models of education lack some ingenuity to fit the new market rules. The fact is that whenever we want to invest in our lives while being a part of the educational system, our enrollment in it for the purpose grabbing the best diploma/degree which will ‘guarantee’ better future is a rule we must follow. But the market has changed and the opportunities for learning have twisted significantly. Now college is still a great way to help a person acquire the right skills for being a good professional in certain fields, but is it really necessary in order to succeed in life? Is it really the best and only way to become good at something, or better alternatives which save a lot of time and money are equally good, or even better? Let’s analyze the average costs of education, length of studies and possible benefits between trade schools (starting trend in the 90’s) and average colleges in order to see things as they really are.
Students decide to go to college because of the increase of possible income, which is around $17,000 bigger with a college diploma, rather than working with a high school diploma on a yearly basis. Most of the colleges have a four year program for getting bachelor degree in which the person looses approximately $ 30,000, which is considered the average opportunity costs for being a college student instead of a worker. Trade Schools last only two years, so the initial pros of such in money based value is $60,000 plus. The comparison of length looks something like this, but only theoretically. The Institute of Education of USA published a survey saying that from all of the attendants at college, only 60% get their diploma. According to US News, 64% of graduates need more than 4 years to finish college, which adds an astonishing average of $70,000 of student expenses yearly, possible $100,000 considering the opportunity costs. Great deals of expenses follow later in life because of the student loans, and graduates end up being stuck with $50,000-$100,000 of debt after the studies are completed. Well at least the graduates will have a brighter future in their profession right? – Supposedly, but it is not so certain anymore. The unemployment and underemployment rates for college graduates have doubled since 2007, leaving a lot of students work-less and unable to pay their student loans.
Trade schools come as a great alternative and opportunity for merely secure future. First of the benefits, as I mentioned before, are the spared two years (at least) of student expenses. Since the average yearly expenses of college students come up to $70,000, trade school students save $140,000 because of the shorter course of studies. And what you get with the diploma? A college graduate is expected to have $47,000 annual income, $11,200 more than students coming from trade schools, says the National Center for Educational Statistics. Since the college graduates spend $140,000 more, the students from trade schools have a 12 year advantage until balancing earnings vs. expenses with college graduates. The average student debt load for trade school graduates is 70% less than college graduates, summing up to $10,000 per student. Another factor of benefit for students who decide to go study in trade schools are the opened job possibilities. Since most of the population working ‘specific’ jobs like mechanics or dentists hygienists is older, the labor market narrows and needs to be filled with more young enthusiasts that are sure to get the job they were taught for. And as long as the competition is low, the incomes of the services of technicians will continue to rise. Sure, four year college degree offers bigger possibilities on longer terms, but nowadays nothing is certain and the conditions and costs of studying change drastically. Whatever a student chooses should go for it until the goal is reached, and be satisfied with nothing less.

Most of us desire romantic love and ways in which we can attract it or keep the flames alive with that special someone. Romantic love causes us to light up like a Christmas tree, breathe a little easier, and view the world with more positivity. Yet, in order to love another with authentic unconditional love, we must first love ourselves. We cannot give what we do not have. One of my favorite counselors, Dr. Larry Crabb, used to say that most couples are like “two fleas and no dog.” Each partner enters the relationship, not to give, but to suck the life’s blood out of each other in order to fill themselves up. We tend to approach relationships from a deficiency instead of approaching the relationship to give and contribute from a position of abundance.
To have an abundance of love to give, we have to fill ourselves up first. I recently worked with a client on this same issue and developed a strategy that was very effective. I named it the “Tabula Rasa Strategy.”
Tabula Rasa in Latin means “blank slate.” Many mental health professionals claim that when we are born, we are born with a blank slate. As we develop as human beings, those who have the most influence on us write on the slate of our souls. It could be a parent, family member, or teacher.
In this exercise with my client, the person who had the most influence on her was her father. When we discussed what he wrote on the slate of her soul, words like “unworthy, insignificant, unimportant, and invisible” came to her mind. Although this greatly affects our belief system about who we are, and what we are capable of, this is not uncommon.
So, here’s the strategy or directive I gave her and you could use for yourself:
1. Write down on a piece of paper the words, feelings, or impressions of what was written on your tabula rasa – your blank slate.
2. Review the list and determine which are objectively true. Then take a red pen or marker and cross out that which is false.
3. Take the piece of paper, crumble it up, and burn it. (Use a fire-safe receptacle like a fireplace, fire pit, or kitchen sink.)
4. Take a new piece of paper and write down what is true about the genuine you. My client wrote things like, “vibrant, conscious, worthy, wanted, loved, and fully expressed.”
5. Review your list every day for 21 days, which creates a habit and reinforces what you really believe about yourself. (This will take less than 30 seconds.)
In implementing this strategy, you will begin to eliminate old, limiting beliefs about yourself and reinforce new, empowering beliefs about yourself that build a foundation of self-love that will enable you to give authentic love to another. Blinknow hаѕ been ореrаting children’s hоmе, school, hеаlth сliniсѕ, wоmеn’ѕ center аnd ѕuѕtаinаbilitу рrоgrаmmеѕ fоr Nераli children аnd wоmеn. Shе hаѕ bееn running Kорilа Valley Childrеn’ѕ Home ѕinсе 2007 whеrе ѕhе has bееn giving ѕhеltеr to more thаn 50 сhildrеn between 1 аnd 16 уеаrѕ оf age.
“If уоu hаd tоld mе whеn I turnеd 18 thаt I wаѕ going tо bе thе mоm of 50 kidѕ, I wоuld hаvе told уоu that уоu wеrе tоtаllу сrаzу …and I am … аnd tо my kidѕ … I lоvе уоu ѕо muсh. Dоn’t еvеr forget hоw muсh I love уоu,” Dоуnе ѕаid. “And, to the соuntrу оf Nepal, thаnk you ѕо much fоr loving mе and accepting mе аѕ a daughter wеlсоming mе into уоur соuntrу,” ѕhе ѕаid.
Whеn ѕhе was in India in 2006, Nepali children’s plight thеrе hаd encouraged hеr to come to Nераl. Shе hаd соmе tо Nераl with Tор Bahadur Mаllа оf Kаlikоt. Maggie said that she hаd cried оut on ѕееing thе miѕеrу of children. “Thе miserable ѕituаtiоn motivated mе tо ѕеt uр a ѕсhооl аnd еduсаtе nееdу and рооr сhildrеn”, Mаggiе ѕаid. She set uр Kopila Valley in 2010.
Dоуnе said, “There iѕ nо timе to wаѕtе. If уоu are еduсаtеd аnd free, еmроwеrеd and safe, уоu hаvе to uѕе уоur ѕtrеngth, уоur power, and уоur giftѕ tо hеlр thе rеѕt оf оur human fаmilу. “Thiѕ honour hаѕ еnсоurаgеd mе to dо mоrе in ѕосiаl service аnd it iѕ thе viсtоrу оf аll invоlvеd in altruistic wоrk”, Mаggiе added. She рlеdgеd tо соntinuе educating the street сhildrеn аnd оrрhаnѕ with еxtrа vigour.
Every girl wants to be a princess. Now an Alaska mother is making that wish come true for girls living with cancer. Holly Christensen’s Magic Yarn Project is giving girls who lose their hair to cancer the chance to have hair like a princess.
Christensen was inspired to create the Magic Yarn Project after learning about a friend’s daughter who was diagnosed with cancer.
“ I knew having been a cancer nurse what she was about to go through,” said Christensen. “I knew she would be going through a difficult time, and that no one would be able to take her suffering away,” added Christensen. “I also knew that losing her long, curly blonde hair at not even 3 years old would be difficult for her, so I figured that the yarn wig could help bring a little magic and fun to a difficult time in her life.”
The mission statement of the Magic Yarn Project shows how much Christensen cares about the little girls battling cancer.
“The mission of The Magic Yarn Project is to create beautiful and soft princess yarn wigs for little girls with cancer and to encourage and facilitate volunteerism by involving communities nationwide in this project. We are so excited to see where this takes us and look forward to bringing light and magic to an otherwise very difficult time in the lives of little cancer fighters,” says Christensen.
Christensen decided to work to create wigs that are handmade with yarn. She knows that some cancer patients don’t like traditional wigs. “The chemotherapy leaves their skin very tender and sensitive”, said Christensen. “[The wigs] are made on soft crocheted beanies.”
The wigs are often based on Disney princesses, like Ariel’s flowing red hair from The Little Mermaid to the white hair and crown of Elsa in Frozen.“They’re based on the most favorite of the Disney princesses,” said Christensen. “Hopefully we’ll have a Jasmine [ from Aladdin] available soon.”
The Magic Yarn Project has grown from a small charity to a viral sensation with people from Alaska to Australia wanting to volunteer to make wigs for the brave girls.
“That’s been really neat,” said Christensen. “To bring a little bit of magic into such a difficult time in their life is so rewarding. It’s almost equally been so rewarding and magical to meet people who want to help.”
“At that moment, I knew it would be kind of special,” she said before helping several others with their projects. “But I didn’t anticipate that so many people would want to get involved, too.”
Women’s prisoners at Hiland Mountain Correctional Center have been making wigs for the patients as well as part of workshops and have been eager to help make wigs for the patients.
Christensen is glad to create a project that is so rewarding and that helps girls feel like princesses as they fight cancer like brave warriors.
“It creates a magical escape from the horrible reality that they’re in, the disease that they’re fighting,” she said.

Mahoney’s Garden Center is a family-run branch company who first opened in the state of Massachusetts in the year 1959. They are located in eight Massachusetts towns: Winchester, Tewksbury, Wayland, Concord, Brighton, Falmouth, Osterville and Chelmsford, as well as a growing facility in Woburn. The Mahoney’s store in Chelmsford is located off to the side of a busy road. The location allows for easy access for people driving by to turn right into the parking lot. On top of the plants and annual flowers, Mahoney’s provides a selection of bags of planting mix, as well as bags of mulch, depending on what the customers are looking to work on.
In the town of Woburn Massachusetts, Mahoney’s grows their plants locally during every season. The plants are grown in extra large pots that promote bigger, healthier root systems. Growing locally also keeps jobs local and reduces the fuel emissions needed to truck plants in from far away.
Since customer care is very important, Mahoney’s provides the option of rewards cards. Mahoney’s Rewards is a free club where customers earn points every time they shop at one of the stores. Points are earned by every dollar you spend. This program works best for regular customers. When customers reach 250 points, five dollars is taken off their purchase. Other benefits include: exclusive sales, special offers and discounts. Automatically sent Emails provide advance notification of Mahoney’s popular sales, private invitation and events. Personal customer’s information is not shared with anyone.
During the New England winter season, the snow arrives around November and usually doesn’t end until early/mid March. The Chelmsford Mahoney’s location is four minutes away from Drum Hill Business District. Mahoney’s employees have the responsibility of shoveling snow away from businesses, sidewalks, clearing snow away from company dumpsters. Employees toss healthy amounts of ice melt onto the sidewalk pavement, around dumpsters, and behind business’. The ice is then thawed, which in turn allows the pavement accessible to walk on.
During the early winter season (late November – mid/late December) Mahoney’s brings in a large truck filled with Christmas trees to be unloaded. The trees are then divided by variety. A benefit for the employees are the tips they make from helping customers with finding and prepping their trees to be tied onto vehicle roofs or placed into the back of the vehicle.
Mahoney’s is all about serving and contributing to the community: through reward cards, the variety of plants offered, plant care, a diverse choice of garden products, Christmas trees and customer benefits.
